Urgent - Read - You SHOULD Save your project each time before you close Audacity. It will save as an .aup file. This allows you to open and edit it again. When you are done, THAT is when you Export it.
FYI - the Mic on your computer is not the best for a conversation between two people (interview). ANY kid of Mic will help, even one from your headphones. Always test sound for quality.

Run this program... Go to "Computer" ->classes -> All Student Shared->Upper School-> Software and Updates->and double click on FFmpeg_v0.62_for_Audacity_on_Windows
Audio conversion site http://www.zamzar.com/ convert to .wav and then you can import into Audacity, work on it as an .aup (it converts the .wav for you) Save it as .aup (this lets you open again and work on it in Audacity. Export it to MP3 when you are DONE.

Here is how to improve the sound quality on your machine.
Right click on your speaker icon, usually in the lower left side of your task bar
go to Playback Devices
Double click the speaker
In the new window click on the Advanced tab
In the Pulldown menu select DVD Quality. (the default was CD quality)
If you get any weird messages about "LAME" when you export from Audacity Please see Mr. White.
